Freedom Mobile Reveals Wireless Network Expansions, Upgrades Throughout B.C.

July 24, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

A quarter million more Canadians now have the option of subscribing to Freedom Mobile’s wireless services, the national carrier announced this week.

Freedom, a wholly owned subsidiary of Videotron, revealed launches in 50 additional cities and communities across B.C. and Alberta.

This latest market expansion was made possible, Freedom stated, as a result of partner agreements enabled by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission’s Mobile Virtual Network Operator framework.

Regions added to B.C. include Chilliwack, Hope, Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, Harrison Hot Springs, Sicamous, and Kent.

The company also unveiled additional coverage within key existing subscription areas such as the North Okanagan and Fraser Valley regions of BC.

“Consumers from across Canada have been demanding more competition in wireless for a very long time,” says Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor, the parent company of Freedom Mobile.

“We’re happy to continue to bring Canadians the many benefits of having a strong fourth player in the market,” he added.

Regions added to Alberta include Camrose, Wetaskiwin, Edson, Yellowhead County, and Lougheed.

The company also unveiled additional coverage within key existing subscription areas such as Parkland County in Alberta.

Freedom offered a full list of additional areas related to the announcement.

In addition to expanding geographically, Freedom stated that the company has been “making numerous improvements to the wireless network” this year, including boosting speed and lowering latency.

Combined with Videotron, Freedom has 3.8 million customers.

Freedom Mobile originally launched in 2008.
