Victoria’s MarineLabs Raises $4 Million to Expand Maritime Weather Intelligence Network

October 22, 2025 by Techcouver Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Victoria-based MarineLabs, a leader in maritime weather intelligence technology, has raised a $4-million seed extension led by BDC Capital’s Sustainability Venture Fund, with participation from InBC Investment Corp., which invests in B.C. companies driving positive local impact.

MarineLabs operates a North America-wide network of rugged, cloud-connected sensors that deliver real-time and historical data on wind, waves, and weather. Its platform transforms this data into AI-driven forecasts that help ports, pilots, and terminals make critical decisions with confidence.

The new capital will support the expansion of MarineLabs’ sensor network and accelerate go-to-market growth across North America.

“MarineLabs is proud to be building Canadian-made technology that’s already making maritime operations measurably safer and more efficient,” said Dr. Scott Beatty, Founder and CEO. “With the support of BDC and InBC, we’re growing our network coverage and entering new markets to deliver even greater impact for the ports, pilots, and terminals that keep our economy moving.”

MarineLabs is a member of the BC Tech Association.

Anamika Mukherjee, Partner at BDC’s Sustainability Venture Fund, said the investment aligns with BDC’s mission to back companies advancing sustainability across industries. Evan Machin, Investment Associate at InBC, added that MarineLabs’ innovation, developed on Vancouver Island, is “strengthening maritime safety, enhancing operations, and improving coastal awareness.”

Already active in four of Canada’s five largest ports, MarineLabs helps operators reduce costly downtime while improving safety and climate resilience along coastlines.

The company’s flagship product, CoastAware, combines live data from its sensor fleet with advanced analytics to deliver real-time and historical maritime weather intelligence. Through a subscription-based dashboard, users can access hyper-local, AI-powered 10-day forecasts to make better decisions, improve efficiency, and minimize environmental impact.
