ZenaTech Positions Intelligent Drone Technology for Defence Applications

January 15, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

A technology provider based in British Columbia is hoping to supply the United States government with artificial intelligence-powered drone-based defence solutions.

Vancouver’s ZenaTech this month noted that its ZenaDrone lineup is “positively positioned” to tap into demand by the defence sector for such solutions based on recent developments.

ZenaDrone manufactures autonomous business drone solutions that incorporate machine learning software, predictive modelling, and even Quantum Computing to help enterprise and government customers improve mission-critical operations, according to Shaun Passley, founder and chief executive officer of ZenaTech.

“Recent developments reinforce the clear reality that drones are now foundational to national security operations,” posits Passley.

Late last year, the Federal Communications Commission’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau updated regulatory developments in a shift toward compliant drone technologies.

America, says Passley, “is moving quickly to secure trusted supply chains and strengthen its response to drone threats.”

ZenaDrone, therefore, “is strategically positioned for success within this environment, including our pursuit of Blue UAS certification, ensuring full NDAA-compliant drone platforms, and our drone manufacturing facilities based in the US,” according to the entrepreneur.

Passley says his company intends to “continue our ongoing focus on delivering secure, and compliant drone solutions for ISR, inspection, critical cargo, and infrastructure protection, which we believe meet the evolving needs of defence and government customers.”

Products from ZenaTech include the rugged ZenaDrone 1000, a military-grade drone tested by U.S. Air Force and Navy Reserve that can allegedly carry up to 40 kilograms.

There is also the IQ Nano, which as the name suggests is a significantly smaller unit. The Nano drone is designed for indoor applications, built to operate in environments without GPS like warehouses or military facilities, targeting use cases such as inventory management and security surveillance.

The IQ Square, meanwhile, is engineered for land surveys, infrastructure inspections, road and bridge inspections, and defence reconnaissance tasks.

Founded in 2017, ZenaTech trades on NASDAQ as ZENA.
