Biotech Firm Discovers Antibodies That Fight Off Neurodegenerative Diseases

January 19, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

A biotechnology company with deep roots in Canada says it has discovered monoclonal antibodies and intrabodies that selectively target misfolded, pathogenic TDP-43, a disease-driving protein implicated in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, fronto-temporal dementia, and forms of Alzheimer’s disease.

Canada-born MindWalk says the discovery was made through the company’s integrated engines and research ecosystem powered by propriety technologies.

This specialized ecosystem, MindWalk says, demonstrates the B.C. company’s ability to tell apart with precision toxic protein conformations and their healthy counterparts, thus overcoming a long-standing challenge in neurodegenerative disease drug development.

“This discovery is a direct validation of our platform strategy,” believes Dr. Jennifer Bath, Chief Executive Officer of MindWalk.

Using technology such as LensAI, Bath says her firm is doing more than “just discovering antibodies.”

“We are identifying the disease-defining protein state and translating that insight into selective, validated assets with traceable biological evidence behind them,” she explains. “This is what platform-driven execution looks like in debilitating, life-threatening disease.”

Bath says the achievement strengthens MindWalk’s position as a trusted discovery partner for complex neurodegenerative programs, utilizing patented HYFT

“Every molecule we characterize today strengthens our evidence base for what defines disease and what distinguishes healthy biology,” stated Bath. “That compounding, evidence-linked learning is what defines a truly Bio-Native platform.”

MindWalk, formerly known as ImmunoPrecise Antibodies, was founded in Alberta in the 80’s before moving to Victoria a decade ago.

Last year, MindWalk rebranded to reflect the company’s technology-forward approach, including the adoption of AI, and expanded its geographical reach with the opening of offices in Texas.

The new name was inspired by Charles Darwin, who took daily walks near his home which he claimed helped his understanding of biology.

Shares in the company, trading publicly under the ticker HYFT, are up over 200% in the past year.
