Canucks Owners Unveil Pro eSports Team

January 5, 2019 by Techcouver Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Last summer the 18,600-capacity Rogers Arena was sold out when it hosted the world’s largest video game tournament, the International Dota 2 Championships.

Now, the owners of the Vancouver Canucks are bringing professional eSports team to the city. The Aquilini Group is proud owners of the Vancouver Titans, a new franchise in The Overwatch League.

The Titans will be one of eight teams to join the international league in an expansion and were introduced live at a Vancouver Canucks game last month.

Overwatch is a first-person shooter game played by two squads of six that boasts more than 40 million worldwide players.

The Overwatch League’s inaugural season saw the playoff finals averaging nearly one million viewers per minute.

The Titans first match of the 2019 season will be on Saturday, February 16th versus the Shanghai Dragons.
