Vancouver’s AVA Technologies is at CES in Las Vegas this week and has already made the trip worthwhile.
Exhibiting in the Eureka Park pavilion for startups, AVA and their Byte Smart Garden was a finalist in Trend Micro’s popular Forward Thinker Award competition.
Trend Forward Capital and its investor partners carefully selected this year’s 24 finalists based on the quality of their pitch decks and video introductions.
After a live pitch-off competition during the conference, AVA was announced as one of six startups that would each receive a $10,000 prize.
AVA’s Byte is the first indoor smart garden that combines sensors and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide automated watering and full-spectrum smart lighting, with compostable, nutrient-enriched, pre-seeded plant pods.
Designed for a new generation of conscious and connected consumers, AVA Byte promotes sustainable agriculture by enabling customers to grow an array of herbs, vegetables, and tomatoes indoors.
AVA Technologies was founded in 2016 by food marketer Valerie Song and ex-sous chef turned industrial designer Chase Ando and in 2018 the company closed a seed round investment of $2.6 million from Vanedge Capital.
