Data from Discovery Foundation’s B.C. Gender Equity Roadmap report late last year showed that women represent 54% of British Columbia’s post-secondary graduates in science and technology.
A definite sign that efforts to increase training of women in technical fields is working.
Despite those gains, it seems that most female graduates never make it to a job in their area of study. According to the report, women make up only 15-20% of B.C.’s STEM workforce, well below the Canadian average of 25%.
A number of networking groups supporting women in Vancouver are trying to change this and they’re coming together this month for The Women of Tech End of Summer Networking Party.
Women in Male-Dominated Industries, Women in Tech World, Women in Product, WWEST, Women in Games, Gather YVR, Women in Communications & Technology BC, and, Women in Tech Regatta have banded together for a fun night of networking, drinks, and snacks where attendees can meet other women in similar fields, make professional connections, and find some new friends in the tech industry.
The Women of Tech End of Summer Networking Party takes place on Thursday, August 22nd from from 6-8pm at Central1’s offices at 1441 Creekside Drive.
