TELUS is buying one of Canada’s leading providers of security solutions, paying $700 million for ADT Canada as telecommunications giants race to expand their product bundles.
ADT Canada provides security and automation solutions to 500,000 residential and business customers and has 1,000 staff across the country.
This acquisition builds on TELUS’ strategy of leveraging its PureFibre and wireless networks to enhance connected home, business, security, IOT, cybersecurity, smart buildings, smart cities and health services for its customers.
TELUS broke into the home security market as part of BCE Inc.’s deal to buy AlarmForce in 2018.
Bell purchased AlarmForce and its 100,000 customers for $182 million and simultaneously sold 39,000 of these customers in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan to Telus for $66.5 million.
Recognizing that home and business security is of significant importance to its customers, last year the company launched TELUS SmartHome Security and Secure Business.
The TELUS SmartHome Security app enables customers to remotely check cameras, lock and unlock doors, manage indoor and outdoor lighting, and even the thermostat all from their smartphone.
