Toyota Canada and Lyft have launched a partnership to provide an limited number of ride-hail drivers in Vancouver with access to hydrogen-powered Mirai sedans.
Lyft drivers in the city will be able to rent one of 24 2021 Toyota Mirais for $198 a week through Toyota’s new Kinto Share App. That cost includes insurance, maintenance, and unlimited kilometres.
The program’s goal is to put hydrogen-powered vehicles in the hands of Vancouver drivers and giving B.C. riders a chance to get to know the alternate fuel source. The second-generation Mirai sedan boasts a range of over 500 km and a charge time of five minutes and it’s only emission is water.
“Lyft’s mission is to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation, and to achieve this, we need to make transportation more sustainable,” said Peter Lukomskyj, General Manager, Lyft in B.C. in a press release.
“This partnership will better serve current drivers and those who don’t have a vehicle but want to drive with Lyft for supplemental income, while moving us toward our goal of reaching 100% electric vehicles on the platform by 2030.”
The Toyota Mirai vehicles can be picked up by Lyft drivers at one of three dealerships in the Lower Mainland.
