Canada has maintained its fourth position in StartupBlink’s 2021 global ecosystem rankings, but the gap between Canada and the top three countries has widened.
StartupBlink ranks the startup ecosystems of countries and cities around the world by scoring ecosystems on the quantity of startups and support entities, the quality of the startup ecosystem, and the business environment of an ecosystem.
The quality, quantity, and business environment scores are combined to determine an overall score for a given startup ecosystem.
StartupBlink also gives cities scores as part of the ecosystem rankings. While many Canadian cities decreased in the global rankings, Toronto, Vancouver, and Montréal all remain in the global top 50. Vancouver dropped five spots in the rankings, and is now ranked at 42nd.
According to StartupBlink, Canada has developed into a country with multiple strong startup ecosystem hubs and B.C. ranks well with Vancouver ranking #2 and Victoria ranking #10.
