Teck Resources, Portable Electric, and B.C. based non-profit Community Energy Association have collaborated to deploy Canada’s largest clean energy, mobile electric vehicle (EV) charger in the East Kootenays.
Fully funded by Teck, the innovative mobile EV charger builds on previous, collaborative efforts to support EV adoption in the region including Accelerate Kootenays, an award-winning initiative responsible for the installation of 40 Level 2 and 13 DC Fast Chargers across the region.
The mobile charger will provide an opportunity to deepen engagement with the public on the future of low-carbon transportation—including the applicability of battery and electric vehicle technology in cold weather and in rural communities.
In addition to powering EVs, the charger acts as an e-generator to power e-bikes, audio equipment, food trucks and more, and is an emissions-free power source.
It will be available in the communities of Fernie, Elkford and Sparwood this summer including farmers markets, community events and local concerts. Following the initial deployment, the charger will operate in the broader region year-round.
