The founder of Fully Charged is inspired by the fact that British Columbia is powered by 98% clean electricity, thanks to our utilization of natural resources like rivers and mountains.
Popular YouTuber Robert Llewellyn from the UK announced this month that he is bringing his annual Fully Charged LIVE show to the Vancouver Convention Centre next September.
“The reason we’re coming to Vancouver is because of BC Hydro and the attitudes in BC around clean energy,” Llewellyn told BC Hydro. “You’re largely hydroelectric powered, which is why I sometimes compare you to Norway.”
The 2022 version of the North American event this September in San Diego includes several elements, including dozens of EVs and live performances, which could be replicated for the Vancouver event, according to BC Hydro.
After pitching the idea for Fully Charged to the BBC in 2009—an “antithesis to Top Gear” that was poorly received—Llewellyn took to YouTube, where his channel Fully Charged approaches one million subscribers.
The longstanding channel addresses “how we generate and even own the electricity to power machines” as well as “the myths of renewable energy [and] the truth about conventional generation.”
As for the live annual event, Fully Charged LIVE claims to be “the world’s number one clean energy and electric vehicle show,” with events in the UK, Europe, US, and now Canada.
