Vancouver “peculiar” & surplus grocery delivery service Peko has been acquired by meal delivery service Fresh Prep.
With community at the core of its mission, Peko aims to reduce food waste and promote access to affordable and healthy diets.
Since May 2021, Peko has saved customers close to $1 million in grocery bills and diverted over 200,000 lbs of food from going to the landfill.
Frustrated with the problem of food waste, Peko was founded by two female university students, Sang Le and Arielle Lok.
Under the Fresh Prep banner, Peko will continue to deliver its signature mystery produce boxes and pantry items at up to 40% off grocery store prices. They also plan to obtain B Corporation® certification, launch a reusable packaging program, and expand to Alberta in the summer of 2023.

This strategic move represents a step further in Fresh Prep’s commitment to tackling food waste. We’ve been really impressed by what the Peko team has built in a short time and are looking forward to working alongside them,” said Husein Rahemtulla, Fresh Prep COO & Co-founder.
The co-founders of Peko will continue to be involved in the company’s future growth, with Sang leading Peko and Arielle serving as a consultant for all things operations.
