Zen LaunchPad has been supporting early-stage companies in British Columbia since 2013, offering assistance to those exploring the idea of starting their own business.
As part of their services, Zen offers an Accelerator Program, providing startups access to a team of experienced engineers, designers, entrepreneurs, as well as a prototyping lab, small volume manufacturing facility, and digital media studio.
Zen has partnered with Spring Activator to provide the Zen Launchpad + Spring’s Product & Technology Accelerator Program, which supports immigrant entrepreneurs who own businesses that create a positive social or environmental impact.
The partnership aims to help these entrepreneurs move to Canada, apply for Permanent Residence status, and scale globally through the Canadian Startup Visa immigration pathway. Spring Activator is a designated organization within the Canadian Start-Up Visa Program.
The Canadian Startup Visa Program allows foreign entrepreneurs to obtain Canadian permanent residence by launching their startup in Canada. To obtain a Canadian Startup Visa, applicants must obtain a letter of support from a designated training organization like Zen LaunchPad.
The Zen Launchpad & Spring Accelerator Program offers various resources to help startups grow and succeed, including access to office space, mentorship, personalized training, funding opportunities, networking events, and business support services. Additionally, startups have access to a fabrication lab, which includes laser cutters, 3D printers, packaging, printing equipment, electronics workstations, and workshop tools.
The company also provides R&D Support, which can provide targeted support to address the challenges that stand in the way of growing a business. Additionally, the Zen Launch Pad Leadership Circle provides workshops, peer-to-peer exchange, and access to leading industry advisors to help startups develop a realistic, high-quality, and fully integrated business plan.
During the 12-week Product and Technology Accelerator Program, startups attend face-to-face or online workshop training sessions for 12 hours per week, participate in at least 8 hours per week of open lab sessions and industry social events, and spend the rest of their time working on their venture.
Zen specializes in startups in robotics, IoT, AR/VR, and product development, but is open to assisting any startup company. The service charges a one-time fee or takes a portion of the program fee in equity for strong startup teams.
This week, Zen Launchpad is providing a startup training session relating to SR&ED.
“Want to learn more about the Canadian Scientific Research and Experimental Development program and how you can get the most out of Canadian government programs to grow your business?” the organization asks. “Join us on May 4th for an in-person and online info session featuring tax expert Allan Winther where he will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the SR&ED tax program.”
Winther is an accountant with decades of experience in tax consulting including GST, PST, and SH&RD.
At the Zen Maker Labs Shipyards in North Vancouver, Allan’s expertise and practical insights will provide valuable guidance on how to set up processes and time tracking correctly and how to ensure that your company is meeting the program’s requirements, according to a description of the event.
“Joining this session is an excellent opportunity for attendees to gain a deeper understanding of the SR&ED program and how to navigate it effectively,” Zen states online.
