HTEC, Canada’s leading clean hydrogen solutions company, marks its entry into British Columbia’s Interior with the opening of its fifth Canadian retail hydrogen station.
In partnership with 7-Eleven Canada, HTEC’s station is located at 1901 Harvey Avenue near BC-97 & Spall Road, in Kelowna.
HTEC designed, built, owns, and operates Canada’s first hydrogen refuelling station network, and the Kelowna station joins a network of four existing stations in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island. This is HTEC’s first station to be located in a dedicated and distinctly identifiable hydrogen fuelling space at a 7-Eleven Canada site.
Natural Resources Canada has provided funding to help build the station through its Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative, which aims to support the establishment of hydrogen stations in major metropolitan areas.
The station has also received funding from the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation through the the B.C. Go Electric Hydrogen Fuelling Program, a partnership between the Province and the Canadian Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA).
To date, HTEC’s hydrogen station network has dispensed more than 50,000 kilograms of hydrogen and supported the deployment of nearly 300 hydrogen electric vehicles. HTEC has plans to open several more stations across the country serving light-, medium- and heavy-duty transportation.
“This station is a significant milestone for the hydrogen industry in Canada, and especially BC. As we continue to expand HTEC’s station network, deployment and adoption of hydrogen electric vehicles will become a mainstream option. This station not only provides access to a clean alternative fuel option to local Kelowna residents but also enables the possibility of longer road trips within the province. We look forward to adding more stations to our network and making hydrogen one of the most convenient clean fuel options for all,” said Colin Armstrong, HTEC’s President and CEO.
