Following in the foot steps of fellow hometown direct-to-consumer startup Fable, Vancouver’s Better Basics is joining Techstars Toronto.
Better Basics designs self-care and cleaning essentials that are not only better for you but also better for the planet.
Did you know that an average household discards 60 plastic cleaning and personal care bottles each year, with a meager 9% being recycled? Moreover, we unknowingly expose ourselves to 168 chemicals daily, with 565 common ingredients being known carcinogens.
Better Basics’ products come in sustainable packaging that is reusable, refillable, and/or biodegradable. Plus, they meticulously vet their ingredients with the Environmental Working Group, ensuring healthier options for all.
Better Basics was co-founded by Samantha Rayner and Caitlin Rushton. A recent BIV Top 40 Under 40 recipient, Rayner bring 15 years of experience in CPG marketing with stops at Saje and Lululemon. Rushton brings 15 years of sales expertise with the last five at Vancouver-born Slack.
Operating in the massive $5.1 billion North American natural and organic personal care market, Better Basics has already made waves by launching with reputable Canadian retailers such as Well.ca and Loblaws.
Fable participated in Techstars Toronto’s 2020 cohort and went on to raise a $3.4 million seed round one year later.
