Innovate BC and the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) are awarding $2,014,425 in R&D funding to 13 BC cleantech companies.
The funding is being awarded through the BC Fast Pilot program, which helps small and medium sized businesses design, build, and operate a pilot plant or small demonstration of their technology in real-world conditions.
Among the companies receiving funding are 4AG Robotics, BQE Water, Crush Dynamics, and VoltSafe.
“We are supporting innovative technology that has the capability to create a more sustainable and green economy,” said Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation.
“BC Fast Pilot allows small businesses the ability to accelerate their development process, resulting in a rapid growth in our clean tech sector that benefits both our economy and our environment.”
The funding emphasizes regional projects with a focus on capital-intensive and physically installed cleantech solutions, along with projects involving Indigenous communities or organizations. This approach aims to support projects that drive real-world applications and encourage customer adoption.
Launched in 2019, the BC Fast Pilot program has so far funded 75 pilot demonstrations, injecting $9.9 million into the cleantech sector. Notable outcomes include the creation of 117 jobs, acquisition of 136 new customers, and a significant $23.5 million increase in new revenue for participating projects.
