In April of 2022, we reported on Good Chemistry Company landing a strategic investment from Accenture Ventures.
The Vancouver-based company drew interest from investors because it is leveraging quantum chemistry, machine learning, and quantum computing to innovate materials design.
“With our platform, we are re-imagining the way computational chemistry simulations are done,” chief executive Arman Zaribafiyan stated at the time of the investment. “Simulating chemistry on computers will help drive faster, more accurate and more accessible materials innovation in the decades to come.”
Good Chemistry, initially launched in 2018 as a division of advanced computing pioneer 1QBit, has now been acquired.
The startup was acquired by Palo Alto’s SandboxAQ for an undisclosed sum, the Silicon Valley firm announced this week.
“Good Chemistry’s software and existing partnerships will enable us to rapidly accelerate how we bring the benefits of advanced simulation and AI tools to more customers,” explained Dr. Nadia Carlsten, Vice President of Product at SandboxAQ.
“Combining our capabilities will give SandboxAQ an advanced and scalable computing platform for highly accurate chemical simulation on a scale that makes impactful use cases such as new drug and material synthesis possible,” the VP continued.
Zaribafiyan will join SandboxAQ as Head of Product for AI Simulation Platforms, according to a statement released by the company.
“The rapid advances in AI, quantum, cloud, and high-performance computing have unlocked endless opportunities for companies like Good Chemistry and SandboxAQ to reinvent the way we think about chemistry, discover ways to make products safer, stronger and more sustainable, and reshape the fabric of our world,” stated Zaribafiyan.
“Leveraging the broader SandboxAQ reach and domain expertise will supercharge the capabilities of our platform,” he added.
Quantum chemists and scientists, as well as AI developers and machine-learning engineers, will join existing SandboxAQ simulation teams, the statement noted.
And as part of the acquisition, SandboxAQ said it will integrate Good Chemistry’s software products, QEMIST Cloud and Tangelo, into its enterprise portfolio.
SandboxAQ was founded in 2021.
