A key player in Vancouver’s innovation ecosystem is poised to showcase the city’s technology-based excellence at SXSW 2024 in Austin, Texas.
Building on success from last year’s “Vancouver Takeover” of SXSW 2023, Frontier Collective is once again intending to make the city’s presence known as the organization helps showcase innovation and foster “crucial conversations.”
Renowned for its convergence of tech, creativity, and innovation, the annual SXSW event provides a platform for Vancouver to spotlight its tech landscape, according to Frontier Collective, which aims to represent the Vancouver region’s “frontier” technologies such as metaverse, VR and AR, robotics and AI, and Web3.
“At Frontier Collective, we believe in the transformative power of technology and innovation to shape our future,” says Dan Burgar, chief executive officer of the self-described “non-traditional organization.”
Burgar believes that his organization’s success at SXSW last year served as “a testament to the vibrant synergy of ideas, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit thriving in Vancouver.”
At SXSW 2024, the Collective once again invites the global community to experience Vancouver’s vibrance of creativity and innovation, promising a “dynamic experience featuring keynote speeches by special guests, startup activations, matchmaking opportunities, creative experiences, and more.”
“As we showcase Vancouver’s tech excellence while bringing global leaders, investors, corporations funding innovation together at SXSW 2024, we’re not just presenting cutting-edge advancements,” Burgar said. “We’re inviting the world to be part of a journey that transcends boundaries.”
Natasha Jaswal, vice president of operations and events for Frontier, says the Frontiers of Innovation: Vancouver Takeover at SXSW 2024 includes “intentional and curated programming” that aims to “provide a great opportunity for local companies to gain exposure on an international stage, positioning Vancouver as a global powerhouse in frontier tech innovation.”
Taking place over several days, the Takeover is centred around “three major events designed to ignite conversation and turn ideas into action.”
“The Frontier Collective is excited to showcase a new era of technological innovation at SXSW 2024, building on the success of last year’s Takeover,” said Jaswal. “The Vancouver Takeover will be an experience that not only attracts top talent and investments but also solidifies Vancouver’s standing as a trailblazing hub for technology.”
“This year’s Vancouver Takeover is more than an event,” added Burgar. “It’s a beacon for the brightest minds and a celebration of the limitless possibilities that emerge when we dare to innovate together.”
Outside SXSW, Frontier Collective is working toward building a Vancouver hub—a “physical centre of gravity for tech and creative innovation” spanning 150,000 square feet.
“We are committed to elevating our city’s global tech presence, fostering economic growth, and building an ecosystem where technology serves humanity’s greatest needs,” Burgar stated.
SXSW is slated to take place from March 8th through the 16th.
