Hedgehog Technologies has been selected as a finalist for the Reuters Global Energy Transition Awards taking place next month in New York City.
The Burnaby-based electromechanical engineering firm is being recognized for their part in a 2-megawatt solar array project in Haida Gwaii in partnership with the Haida Nation.
The groundbreaking solar array stands as one of the largest in British Columbia and was made possible through the community’s self-determination, with active involvement from Hedgehog throughout the process.
Hedgehog implemented a procurement strategy aimed at employing and training local individuals who stand to gain from the project, thereby contributing to the creation of new job opportunities within the Massett community.
This is not the first time that Hedgehog has been recognized for its work with remote Indigenous communities.
In 2022, Hedgehog received an Award of Excellence and an additional special award called Engineering a Better Canada for their work on the Fort Severn First Nation (FSFN) energy project.
