AWS Invites Vancouver to Hold Canada’s First-Ever Community Day in September

August 22, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

For a decade now, the Vancouver AWS Usergroup has been running free monthly gatherings to showcase demos, share knowledge, and collaborate with other talent and companies within the community.

Now the city its looking to host Canada’s first-ever officially AWS Community Day.

AWS Community Day events are conferences where event logistics and content is planned and delivered by community leaders. The events tend to feature technical discussions, workshops, and hands-on labs led by AWS experts and other industry leaders.

Community Days are run in cities all over the world, from Ecuador and Argentina to Romania and the Netherlands.

In September, the event comes to Canada via Vancouver.

Vancouver’s AWS Community Day, slated for September 17th at 1pm, is set to feature “a full afternoon of speakers lined up for you covering topics on AWS around AI, Costs, Kubernetes, Data, and more,” according to organizers.

Local tech personality Kris Krug will interview AWS professionals live at the event, which will also feature live music from Vancouver musician Scott Jacobs.

And following that? A VIP afterparty to cap off the day in style.

The Community Day is set to take place at Vancouver Playhouse, a strategic location given the venue’s close proximity to Amazon AWS’s office at “The Post” building—an iconic piece of the city’s architecture and history that the tech titan played homage to through LEGO in 2022.
