Earlier this year, 10 companies from around the world secured their spot in the 2024 Class of the Comcast NBCUniversal SportsTech Accelerator, a six-month program that provides founders with opportunities to collaborate with leaders from major sports brands such as NASCAR, the Premier League, PGA TOUR, and Olympic sports organizations since launching in 2021.
The chosen 10—selected from over 1,500 applicants across more than 50 countries—included four Canadian picks, two of which hail from Vancouver.
One is Vancouver’s Plantiga, aiming to redefine athlete health and performance monitoring with in-shoe sensors powered by AI. The firm raised capital in 2021.
The other is Fobi AI, which leverages AI to offer data intelligence solutions that help make digital transformation easier for businesses. The Fobi Mobile Wallet Pass platform, for example helps organizations open new marketing channels using the native mobile wallet functionality available on every smartphone. Formerly known as Loop Insights, Fobi trades on the TSXV.
Now that the six-month program is wrapping up this week at Rally Innovation in Indianapolis, we decided to take a look at where Plantiga and Fobi are at.
Planting is meeting and working with performance teams from a variety of sports, including Premier League and NASCAR.
The teams are piloting Planting’s in-shoe sensors, which leverage AI to track metrics and help athletes minimize time lost to injury.
Fobi meanwhile has established a partnership with Comcast Spectator. The partnership will see Fobi support the 2024 Flyers Community Caravan with mobile wallet credentialing through September.
It’s a real-world battle-test off the company’s advanced wallet pass technology designed to optimize event management and enhance fan experiences.
Overall, both firms appear to have benefited from immersion in the program and seem to be positioned for success moving forward.
