Invinity Energy Systems is currently up for “Company of the Year – Scale” at this year’s Technology Impact Awards.
But the upstart’s attention is elsewhere—in another country, in fact.
That’s because Invinity recently expanded its manufacturing capabilities with the opening of a new facility in Scotland.
The new facility, located in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, is six times the size of Invinity’s existing facility, supporting the creation of more than 40 jobs in the region, according to a statement from the company.
Invinity’s presence in Scotland is no coincidence. The firm was forged in 2020 from the combined fires of Alberta-born Avalon Battery and RedT in the UK.
The company develops batteries that are well-suited for providing large-scale energy storage solutions with a focus on achieving “market-leading scalability and economics,” according to chief executive Larry Zulch.
Invinity Energy Systems is a member of the BC Tech Association.

Invinity’s strategy, says Zulch, is the “transformation of vanadium flow batteries from bespoke engineering projects into factory-built products, with all of the benefits of quality, cost, and consistency derived therefrom.”
These next-gen project-to-products have been selling, with Taiwan’s Everdura Technology showing interest for example.
“Our confidence in Invinity’s products to meet the requirements of this growing market is demonstrated by our intention to develop a manufacturing partnership with them,” Everudura chairman Darren Yen stated in 2023.
In addition to the battery order, Everdura and Invinity signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding which proposed a strategic manufacturing partnership in Taiwan.
Other collaborations from Invinity include supplying a VFB to Elemental Energy, a Canadian renewable project developer, for its Chappice Lake Solar Storage project in Alberta.
With a manufacturing facility in East Vancouver, Invinity trades publicly on the London Stock Exchange.
