In a 2023 paper McKinsey estimated that 75% of the overall economic impact from generative AI would come in 4 areas: customer operations, marketing and sales, software engineering, and research and development. But for many companies it is hard to know where to start.
At a recent event BC Took took a poll of members to determine where in their businesses they are seeing the greatest deployment of AI today:
Product development was top of mind for most but over the course of the discussion applications across all areas of business operations were identified:
- Customer intelligence for sales teams
- Market research for the C suite
- Productivity tools for software development
- Ideation and brainstorming tools for product development
- Analytics around KPIs and predictive analytics for business reviews
- Chatbots to design webforms, simplify application forms and improve user interface
- Meeting preparation and notes
- Employee support and personalization tools
- Process automation and acceleration to reduce administrative workload
One great piece of advice from BC Tech’s AI C-Council chair Rob Goehring is ‘look to your best customers and how you can serve them better and look to your most challenging or expensive customers and how you can use AI to improve your operational efficiencies with them’.
The big takeaway from our members is that AI it has the potential to do heavyweight complex work – but that comes with a bigger investment and needs the right expertise to harness the potential. Beyond the hype, the good news is that AI is already a great lightweight tool that all businesses can be using today. Become a BC Tech member and we will connect you to other members who can support an AI deployment in your business.
