SenseNet is a Vancouver-based technology company providing a rapid wildfire detection solution.
The upstart leverages fire detection technology integrating sensors, cameras, and artificial intelligence-powered analysis to provide accurate and early alerts to wildfire threats.
SenseNet this week announced a partnership with neighbouring drone company SkyScout AI to combine the two B.C. companies’ technologies.
“The integrated solution provided by SenseNet’s sensors and state-of-the-art AI algorithms, combined with the drone technology of SkyScout AI, provides an unprecedented early fire detection system that can be deployed and scaled to enable informed and immediate response, critical to first responders charged with expansive wildfire surveillance and mitigation,” stated SenseNet chief executive officer Hamed Noori.
“We are very pleased to partner with SkyScout to enhance our solution for those communities living with the risk of wildfires,” Noori added.
Also based in Vancouver, SkyScout says its tech can initiate the automated deployment of Scout Drones, which will use SenseNet tech to provide further intelligence to manage wildfires.
SkyScout’s firefighting drones currently utilize Citrotech, a food-grade fire inhibitor that prevents ignition.
“We are committed to providing the most comprehensive solution to help combat the devastation caused by wildfires,” commented Kristina Marsden, who was hired as chief executive officer of SkyScout last month.
SenseNet’s solution provides “a sophisticated sensor network powered by AI algorithms, expansive data analytics, and a management platform,” noted Marsden, making the company an ideal partner.
“When combined with our early-detection network of drones, it offers an unprecedented solution to mitigating wildfire threat at the earliest stage,” the CEO and former Director of Programs & Production at Conair Aerial Firefighting said.
The combination of technologies will prove valuable in cases where it is not safe or humanly possible to reach or deploy wildfire firefighter crews to assess the severity of wildfires, Marsden posits.
Founded in 2019, SenseNet has been protecting local communities such as Vernon’s Predator Ridge as well as elsewhere in Canada including Alberta.
“The integrity of SenseNet’s solution can help protect our community from a potential wildfire crisis through reliable and advanced wildfire monitoring to detect the earliest signs of wildfire and deploy the quickest response,” stated Brad Pelletier, Senior Vice President of Predator Ridge.
SkyScout launched in 2023.
