UBC’s 2024 Venture Showcase Spotlights Next Generation of Startup Innovators

The University of British Columbia is renowned for the entrepreneurial spirit of its student body and faculty, who regularly churn out startups through programs such as entrepreneurship@UBC.

As one of the top 40 research universities in the world, UBC attracts world leading researchers and innovators who are translating their insights and discoveries to solve some of the most pressing problems we are facing today.

This month innovative startups will be highlighted at its 2024 Venture Showcase.

The annual event features teams from across UBC’s innovation pipeline ranging from their “Ones-to-Watch” ventures who are at the outset of their journeys in incubation, to their “Ready-to-Raise” HATCH Venture Builder teams gaining traction in the accelerator stage.

The 11 ventures taking the stage at the 2024 Venture Showcase are:

• Autochart Technologies: Reducing nursing documentation burden with ambient speech and AI.
• DECAP Research & Development: Creating tools to protect healthcare workers from occupational hazards.
• Fibernx: Transforming waste into sustainable, low-cost carbon fibers & carbon nanofibers.
• Minpraxis Solutions: Transforming orebody characterization to improve productivity in mining and milling.
• Mitra Biotechnologies: Providing diagnostic biomarker panels 10X faster and at 100X lower-cost.
• MycoFoundry: Biofabricating the future of home furnishings, one object at a time.
• Needle-Free: We develop a needle-free delivery platform for biologics delivery for skincare and vaccines.
• NellaDerm Therapeutics: Innovative eczema care using advanced technologies for gentle, effective relief.
• PrecisionPest Guard: AI-powered tool for targeted, eco-friendly pest control in greenhouses.
• Tydra Labs: Tydra Labs creates sustainable, biodegradable spandex to reduce plastic pollution globally.
• Xpress Select: Empowering pharmacies to provide efficient, personalized over-the-counter recommendations for patients.
