Victoria-based Medimap has announced two major milestones that position the company at the forefront of digital health innovation.
The company has been accepted into NVIDIA’s Inception Program and selected for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Health Equity Initiative, reflecting its growing influence in the healthcare technology space.
Medimap, co-founded by Blake Adam and Jonathan Clark in 2015, is Canada’s largest online and mobile real-time resource for same-day access to healthcare services. The platform enables patients to view current wait times at walk-in medical clinics, with over 70% of such clinics across Canada registered on Medimap.
Medimap’s inclusion in the NVIDIA Inception Program grants it access to cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) tools, technical resources, and a global network of experts. This partnership will enable Medimap to enhance its suite of AI-powered healthcare tools, including patient engagement technologies, advanced doctor-patient matching, and solutions to reduce emergency department wait times.
“We are thrilled to become a NVIDIA Inception Program member,” said Thomas Jankowski, CEO of Medimap (pictured). “This partnership will empower us to continue to serve governments, enterprises, and individual clinics alike, ultimately making it easier for patients to connect with the care they need, faster.”
In addition to its NVIDIA partnership, Medimap has been selected as part of the AWS Health Equity Initiative (HEI), a $40 million global commitment to improving health outcomes for underserved communities. The program offers AWS credits and customized technical expertise to help organizations like Medimap tackle critical health disparities.
The initiative will support Medimap’s efforts to enhance healthcare access for underserved communities in Canada, focusing on low-income individuals, new immigrants, and residents in rural or remote areas. By leveraging AWS services, Medimap plans to collaborate with local organizations and healthcare providers to engage directly with these communities and address barriers to care.
“Being one of the few companies in the world selected for the AWS HEI program is humbling, and we deeply thank Amazon for their trust,” said Jankowski. “Medimap’s budding AI product portfolio will grow immensely this coming year to help us achieve the scale we’re building for as part of our expansion strategy, and to enable healthcare authorities and hospitals to make noticeable improvements to Emergency Department wait times.”
In 2018 Medimap secured third place in the New Venture BC Competition, earning a $35,000 Innovate BC prize package. Three years later Medimap raised a $3.5 million seed round led by Tiny Capital, with participation from angel investors Rasool Rayani, David Arnsdorf, and Rajiv Khaneja.
