Over $50 billion has been invested by Amazon into Canada since 2010.
Anchored by a downtown Vancouver tech hub nearly 5,000 workers strong, Amazon continues to expand throughout British Columbia.
The U.S. tech titan this month released its annual year-end report for the Canadian market. Titled How Amazon is Investing in Canada, the report shows that the company now employs more than 46,000 people across Canada.
That figure includes over 8,000 technology roles, which are spread primarily across Amazon’s two Canadian tech hubs—Vancouver and Toronto—as well as a smattering at the company’s robotics operations in Alberta.
Within these tech hubs is an array of tech-forward departments, from Amazon Web Services and Amazon Ads to Alexa and Prime Video.
The Vancouver tech hub houses 4,500 employees, or more than half of Amazon’s total tech talent in Canada, according to the report.
In total, Amazon employs more than 10,000 people in BC, or nearly one quarter of all Amazon workers in Canada.
Here, Amazon’s outpost is, in fact, The Post.
The Post has major historical significance for Vancouver; its original architecture was restored as part of an ambitious heritage redevelopment by property developer and manager QuadReal Property Group and MCM Architects.
Graeme Dymond, one of Canada’s only LEGO-certified master model builders, even built a 12-cubic foot model of The Post for Amazon in 2022.
But does The Post really have enough room for Amazon’s growing army of several thousand techies?
It certainly helps that Amazon is the sole corporate tenant at The Post, boasting all of its 1.1 million square feet of office space, including a new atrium connecting a 21-floor South Tower and 22-floor North Tower.
