As 2024 draws to a close, Rogers has revealed the year’s most shared moments on its 5G network, showcasing how Canadians came together virtually to celebrate concerts, sports, and rare celestial events. The top 10 moments generated nearly 100 million megabytes of data, reflecting the growing demand for seamless connectivity.
“As Canada’s largest and most reliable 5G network provider, we want to make sure customers can share the moment,” said Mark Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer. “Whether it’s a Taylor Swift concert or the total darkness of a solar eclipse, we are investing to stay ahead as demand for data continues to grow.”
Concerts Lead the Way
Music fans dominated the network, with Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour taking the top two spots. Her six Toronto shows saw an astonishing 42TB of data usage, while her three-night Vancouver performance followed with 32TB. Combined, that’s equivalent to streaming Swift’s entire music catalog over 63,000 times.
Also in the spotlight was Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, whose Toronto concert in July consumed 5.38TB of data, placing third.
Sports Moments Spark Connectivity
Canada’s love for sports was evident, with four moments making the list. The 111th Grey Cup at BC Place topped the sports category, with fans consuming 3.95TB of data, equivalent to streaming the Jonas Brothers’ halftime performance nearly 9,000 times.
Baseball fans rallied for the Toronto Blue Jays’ home opener, using 3.1TB of data, while Edmonton Oilers supporters documented the team’s Stanley Cup Finals run with 3.06TB of usage. A nail-biting Game 7 of the Western Conference Final between Vancouver and Edmonton rounded out the sports entries, with 1.53TB of data shared.
A Rare Celestial Highlight
The total solar eclipse also captured Canadians’ imaginations. Cities along the path of totality saw massive spikes in data usage, with Montreal leading at 3.68TB, followed by Niagara Falls (2.83TB) and Kingston (2.32TB). Combined, these locations accounted for the sharing of 184,000 photos of the breathtaking event.
A Connected Nation
These shared moments highlight the power of 5G technology to bring Canadians closer to the experiences that matter most. As Rogers continues to expand its 5G capabilities, Canadians can look forward to staying connected and sharing even more memorable moments in 2025.
