Victoria’s Solaires Secures $1.55M to Advance Perovskite Solar Tech

February 14, 2025 by Techcouver Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Victoria cleantech Solaires has secured $1.55 million in non-dilutive funding from Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) to accelerate the commercialization of its perovskite-based photovoltaic solutions.

The funding will support the development of Solaires’ PVModules for use in new applications such as transportation and building-integrated solar solutions. The company’s technology promises to enhance energy efficiency for low-power electronic devices while delivering significant greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions in the transportation and energy sectors.

“At Solaires, we are committed to advancing photovoltaic technology to power a more sustainable future,” said Dr. Sahar Sam, co-founder and CEO of Solaires. “With SDTC’s support, we can accelerate the development of our next-generation photovoltaic modules—designed for indoor and outdoor applications. This support enables us to expand our impact into the transportation industry, bringing us closer to a world where photovoltaics are seamlessly integrated into everyday life.”

Solaires’ technology is designed to capture sunlight on surfaces that traditional solar panels cannot, making it an attractive solution for transportation and commercial industries seeking sustainable energy alternatives.

The funding follows a major milestone for the company, which last year completed trial production of perovskite-based photovoltaic modules through its joint venture, SEI Energy Technology, with Shanghai-based Genesis Technologies. The perovskite modules, which have demonstrated a third-party tested conversion efficiency exceeding 35% in 2024, are seen as a breakthrough in indoor light power generation, offering greater stability and cost efficiency for large-scale production.

Solaires’ advancements underscore the growing potential of perovskite solar technology, positioning the company at the forefront of next-generation clean energy solutions.
