Vancouver-based healthtech company Light AI has announced the appointment of Anthony Schaller as its new President and Chief Technology Officer, marking a significant milestone in the company’s mission to revolutionize global healthcare access through artificial intelligence.
A Silicon Valley veteran with four decades of experience in global technology development, Schaller will lead Light AI’s commercialization strategy and oversee the continued development of its AI-powered diagnostic apps. He has served as a strategic advisor to Light AI since October 2024, helping to shape the company’s technology roadmap and market positioning.
“We are thrilled to have Anthony join our executive team to lead our global commercialization efforts,” said Peter Whitehead, founder and CEO of Light AI. “His leadership has already been instrumental in guiding the development of our Wellness App for consumers and our Practitioner App for healthcare professionals. His deep expertise in technology partnerships, integration, and team management makes him an ideal leader as we scale.”
Light AI’s technology enables users to detect Strep A with a two-second video of the throat taken on a smartphone, aiming to curb the misuse of antibiotics and expand access to reliable diagnostics, especially in underserved communities. The company’s app has achieved “Gold Standard” accuracy in pre-FDA validation studies and is currently expanding its functionality across both iOS and Android platforms.
Schaller, whose track record includes roles at CitySearch/Ticketmaster, Carnegie Mellon’s Andrew Project, and the commercial scale-up of Match.com, emphasized the broader potential of Light AI’s platform.
“We are now at the crossroads of a paradigm shift involving healthcare, data and AI,” Schaller said. “Light AI is uniquely positioned to serve both traditional healthcare providers and the growing personal health management space. Our mobile-first technology holds the promise of affordable, accessible diagnostics anywhere in the world.”
Light AI’s development roadmap includes enhanced cloud infrastructure, a user-optimized interface for both its consumer and practitioner apps, and a future platform to aggregate a variety of health-related sensor data from smartphones. Pending regulatory approval of its Practitioner App, the company expects to pursue global distribution agreements.
