Victoria Hardware Startup Expands Tech Device to Serve Healthcare Field

April 25, 2025 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

A Vancouver Island hardware technology upstart is expanding into a whole new market.

Victoria’s MeepMeep is known for its flagship product, a tracking device so light and tiny that you can attach one to a disc golf.

The B.C. firm revealed this week that it is expanding beyond sports into an unexpected space: healthcare.

Specifically, MeepMeep sees an opportunity to apply its wearable tech to patients with dementia.

The Canadian company believes there is a use case for “adapting its proven tracking technology to help long-term care residents and staff easily find essential items like remotes, hearing aids, and mobility aids.”

Canada has approximately 800 private long-term care homes with an estimated 64,000 residents, representing a multimillion-dollar opportunity for MeepMeep.

To pilot the project, the startup has partnered with Trillium Communities – St. Charles Manor Memory Care Neighbourhood.

“Trillium Communities have been fantastic pilot partners at every step,” stated Eve Bennett, the founder of MeepMeep.

According to 30 Under 30 entrepreneur Bennett, who runs her company as chief executive officer, MeepMeep’s rugged and connected locators are now being tested in care settings where memory loss can make misplaced items a daily source of stress.

“Going into dementia care felt like a natural step after hearing directly from their team—and their families—about the stress caused by lost items like hearing aids,” she explains.

The pilot is demonstrating how MeepMeep’s technology can reduce resident agitation, ease caregiver workload, and improve trust between families and care teams by enabling faster retrieval of lost items and providing data to support early intervention and care planning, according to a statement from MeepMeep.

“One family member described our solution as a small investment that could save enormous emotional and financial strain,” Bennett remarked. “That kind of impact is exactly why we do this.”

As MeepMeep expands beyond sports into healthcare, Bennett holds a “broader vision of using smart, accessible technology to solve real-world tracking challenges across industries.”
