High costs and complicated logistics have long kept heat pumps out of reach for many homeowners.
Vancouver-based home electrification company Jetson is out to change that with the launch of Jetson Air, a fully integrated smart home heat pump platform that installs in a single day—at roughly half the price of traditional contractors.
Early adopters in British Columbia, Massachusetts, and Colorado are already experiencing the benefits, with expansion now underway into New York.
Jetson Air connects seamlessly with existing ductwork, operates quietly, and performs reliably in cold climates down to -30°C. Beyond cost savings, the system layers in smart-home features including 24/7 monitoring, real-time performance alerts, over-the-air software updates, and indoor air-quality sensing.
“Jetson Air is bringing the same kind of innovation to your home’s heating and cooling that Tesla brought to your driveway—smart, electric, and built for the future,” said Stephen Lake, co-founder and CEO of Jetson. “Most heat pump systems today are still made and installed by companies rooted in gas equipment. They know hardware, not software. Software is what unlocks real gains in efficiency, comfort, and control.”
Lake knows a thing or two about disruption. Before Jetson, he co-founded wearable technology firm North (previously Thalmic Labs), which grew to 400 employees before being acquired by Google in 2020. After guiding North’s transition, Lake turned his focus to heat pumps—an area he saw held back in North America by poor customer experience and outdated business models.
For North Vancouver homeowner Robin Macqueen, the results were immediate:
- Gas bill dropped by $474 in six months
- Electricity bill rose just $168
- Net savings of $306 and a cut of 2.2 tonnes of CO₂
“These savings are nearly equivalent to the emissions of one return flight to Europe,” Macqueen said. “The process was also much simpler than I had anticipated, with an online quote and installation in a single day.”
Jetson has redesigned the entire customer journey. Homeowners receive transparent pricing online in minutes, skipping in-home sales visits and complex estimates. By sourcing equipment directly from factories and using its own specialized installation teams, Jetson reduces errors, removes middlemen, and passes savings directly to customers.
The platform includes the Jetson App for real-time energy tracking, air-quality monitoring, and maintenance alerts. A subscription service, Jetson Care, adds a 10-year fully inclusive warranty, 24/7 monitoring, and annual checkups for peace of mind.
Looking ahead, Jetson Air will be able to optimize around time-of-use rates and demand-response events—helping customers cut bills further while supporting a more resilient grid.
By marrying hardware with continuous software optimization, Jetson hopes to accelerate heat pump adoption in Canada and beyond—making homes more efficient, comfortable, and climate-friendly.
