Last year, Frontier Collective created a flagship summit aimed at connecting global investors, leaders, and stakeholders with metaverse and Web3 leaders in Vancouver.
“Frontier technologies are thriving in this region and we see a tremendous opportunity to cement Vancouver’s position both nationally and globally,” stated Dan Burgar, co-founder and CEO of the Frontier Collective, at the time.
Frontier Collective describes itself as “non-traditional” and comprised of “leaders in tech, culture, and community who support the development of the fastest-growing technologies in the region.”
Through Frontier Summit, dozens of leaders and investors from around the world descended on Vancouver in 2022 to connect with local founders and startups innovating the metaverse and web3, as well as those disrupting virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and creative spaces like non-fungible tokens and e-sports.
“We want to uncover how the metaverse and Web3 will revolutionize every industry and benefit each and every one of us, as we hit the next wave of computing and the internet,” said Burgar.
This year, Frontier looks to propel Vancouver’s innovation ecosystem onto the global stage at the tech-forward SXSW event in Austin, Texas.
“We’re embracing the new Vancouver and showing that we can be bold and proud to share our stories,” Burgar stated recently. “We believe that Vancouver has potential to lead the world in this new paradigm of technological revolution especially in the areas of frontier technologies.”
Frontier technology is booming in Vancouver with “transformational technology sectors” making the coastal city their home base, according to a statement from his organization.
“We have the second largest Metaverse/VR/AR industry in the world and the highest concentration of 3D talent globally,” Frontier notes, adding that “We are home to up-and-coming generative AI ecosystems and a world-leading cluster of film, TV, gaming, VFX and animation firms. We are the birthplace of the NFT.”
Frontier Collective’s SXSW2023 Vancouver Takeover will feature a day of speakers, stories, and “activations” across a weekend of curated matchmaking for Vancouver-based companies alongside global leaders and investors, the organization says.
Speakers and panelists include: Ken Sim, Mayor of Vancouver; Cynthia Maller, Head of 3D at Walmart; Rakesh Apte, Innovation Leader at Dell Technologies; Winston Choe, Director of Innovation at LG Nova; Frontier Collective CEO Dan Burgar, and more.
“We’re seeing something exciting emerging in Vancouver: a renewed energy and optimism about the future,” observes Mayor Sim. “For Vancouver to realize its potential as a global hub for technology, innovation, and creativity, it’s important that we continue to support the initiatives that highlight our city.”
Frontier Collective along with partners, will support the delegation of local companies and leaders looking to garner investment partnership opportunities. If any Vancouver or BC-based startups are interested in joining the Takeover, they can apply here by February 8th for potential support.
