The Canadian Food Innovation Network, a national organization aimed at transforming the Canadian food sector, announced this week the appointment of Curtis Wong as its new Vice President of Partnerships and Development.
Wong, based in Vancouver, is no stranger to the food and beverage industry, boasting a career spanning more than 25 years. He first cut his teeth in the hospitality sector, working in luxury hotels and destination management, before taking on a range of roles within the food and beverage industry.
“Adding Curtis to our team is a critical step for us as we begin our scale-up journey,” believes Dana McCauley.
McCauley, the chief executive officer of the Canadian Food Innovation Network, says that “hundreds of new members” sign up each month for its exclusive online community, YODL—an interactive self-serve platform that connects CFIN members to partners, funding, and resources to grow business and increase innovation.
“We’ve established ourselves as a valued partner and funder for Canadian food innovators,” the CEO explains. “As we enter a new era of growth, Curtis will be instrumental in enhancing member experience, establishing high-value partnerships, and creating new revenue opportunities for the organization.”
Wong’s expertise extends across fields, from marketing to project roles, including sponsorships and partner development. He has collaborated with an array of organizations, such as Destination Vancouver, Small Business BC, and various government ministries related to tourism, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
“I’m thrilled to join the CFIN team,” he stated.
Recognized as a profit-conscious executive with non-profit experience, Wong has an understanding of the financial challenges facing food companies, from investment and cost control to labour management.
“Over the last two years, CFIN has proven its value, created significant impact, and is now primed for rapid growth,” he said. “I look forward to connecting with the 3,200 members from across the food value chain and championing food innovation across the country.”
Wong firmly believes in the potential of collaboration between different sectors—including innovators, investors, academia, government, and strategic partners—in tackling these worldwide food challenges.
CFIN’s programs, such as the Innovation Booster, fuel regional ecosystems from multiple angles.
In his newly minted role, Wong will focus on further developing these regional and national food innovation ecosystems, helping CFIN achieve its ambitious goal of positioning Canada as a global leader in food and beverage innovation.
