One of America’s oldest and largest newspapers is building on a decade-long collaboration with a Vancouver firm to further boost distribution of its award-winning journalism.
PressReader, on a mission to enrich curious minds by “bringing a universe of quality content within reach,” this week announced the expansion of a longstanding relationship with The New York Times Company.
As an industry partner of the World Travel and Tourism Council, BC-born PressReader believes it is uniquely positioned to offer New York Times to travellers globally via a network of channel partners which spans 150 countries.
PressReader—now the exclusive distributor of New York Times’ digital News products±intends to distribute the paper’s journalism to public libraries and patient-care facilities, according to a statement, among other channels.
Steve Chapman, Senior Vice President of Content Partnerships for the PressReader Group of companies, described the collaboration with NYT as “a direct response to feedback from our readers.”
“The New York Times has remained a top-requested title across our B2B sectors, a testament to their internationally acclaimed journalism,” he stated. “This enduring demand made it a natural choice for PressReader to forge such a partnership with The New York Times Company.”
Andy Wright, a Senior Vice President at The New York Times Company, says that “great journalism has the power to make each reader’s life richer and more fulfilling, and all of society stronger and more just.”
But journalism has to be read, of course, to have any effect.
“This agreement allows us to increase access to our high-quality, original, independent journalism from anywhere in the world—and connect with an even broader global audience,” Wright stated. “We’re thrilled to expand our relationship with PressReader Group.”
The chief executive of PressReader, Ruairí Doyle, believes the partnership is value-aligned.
“Together [with NYT], we are steadfastly committed to delivering top-notch journalism and an unparalleled reading experience to a worldwide and diverse audience,” Doyle stated, “guaranteeing the continued excellence of reporting, and nurturing informed citizens in this digital age.”
“We are delighted to deepen our partnership with The New York Times Company, whose content helps people understand the world through its commitment to truth-seeking,” the CEO added.
PressReader works with the publishers of 14,000 newspapers, magazines, and educational publications.
The NYT, founded in 1851, boasts nine million subscribers across its array of print and digital products.
