Foresight Canada celebrated the province’s top cleantech innovators at the fifth annual BC Cleantech Awards, held last night at a sold-out ceremony in Yaletown.
The event honoured individuals and organizations driving forward climate solutions, clean technology adoption, and sustainable economic development in B.C.
As environmental and economic challenges mount worldwide, British Columbia continues to shine as a cleantech leader. This year’s winners demonstrate how local innovation can deliver global impact—advancing the energy transition while fostering economic resilience at home.
“The 2025 BC Cleantech Award winners are a testament to BC’s unwavering leadership in the cleantech sector,” said Jeanette Jackson, CEO of Foresight Canada. “The winners’ efforts prove that we are not just talking about a sustainable future—we are building it, while also supporting a resilient provincial economy.”
Adopter of the Year: City of Vancouver
The City of Vancouver was recognized for expanding its Neighbourhood Energy Utility, tripling its sewage heat recovery capacity to provide low-carbon thermal energy to local communities. The project integrates state-of-the-art filtration and heat pump technologies and stands as a model for urban decarbonization.
Funder of the Year: Active Impact Investments
As Canada’s largest climate tech seed fund, Active Impact Investments has fuelled early-stage cleantech ventures with a sharp focus on impact. In 2024, the firm launched its third fund, backing startups that collectively mitigated more than one million tonnes of CO2e.
Cleantech Supporter of the Year: Zero Emissions Innovation Centre
Under the leadership of Melina Scholefield, ZEIC continues to accelerate climate action through programs such as Building to Electrification, ZEBx, and the BC Retrofit Accelerator. ZEIC is helping transform B.C.’s building sector and support its journey to net zero.
Startup Venture of the Year: Green Manganese Technologies
Green Manganese is pioneering a closed-loop, eco-friendly process to extract battery-grade manganese—a critical material for electric vehicle production. Their method eliminates harmful by-products while remediating mine waste.
Scaleup Venture of the Year: pH7 Technologies
pH7 Technologies is scaling a near-zero-emissions process for extracting critical metals from mining waste and recycled materials. Their innovative work is helping to reduce the environmental footprint of metal extraction while supporting the global shift to clean energy.
“It’s truly an honour to receive this recognition,” said Green Manganese co-Founder Alexey Demykin. “Our journey has been full of learning and growth. As we continue to develop and scale, this award reinforces our mission and motivates us to push forward.”
With winners spanning government, finance, research, and entrepreneurship, the BC Cleantech Awards serve as a powerful reminder of what’s possible when innovation and climate ambition go hand in hand.
