HTEC Collabs with Cavendish, 7-Eleven on Latest Hydrogen Fuelling Station

April 4, 2025 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

HTEC this week announced the opening of its sixth retail light-duty hydrogen refuelling station.

The Vancouver organization’s latest station, located on Southeast Marine Drive in Vancouver, was launched in partnership with 7-Eleven Canada and Cavendish Hydrogen.

“We’re excited to see this new station come online,” commented Colin Armstrong, chief executive officer of HTEC, which designed and operates Canada’s first network of hydrogen refuelling stations. “It’s another step forward in building a hydrogen ecosystem to decarbonize the transportation sector that the HTEC team has been working toward for years.”

The latest location joins HTEC’s five existing B.C. stations across the Lower Mainland, Kelowna, and Vancouver Island.

The development of this station was partially financed by the Canada Infrastructure Bank through its Charging and Hydrogen Refueling Infrastructure initiative, which launched last year to support private-sector deployment of large-scale clean transportation infrastructure.

Additional support was provided by Natural Resources Canada through the Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative, as well from the Canadian Hydrogen Association through the CleanBC Go Electric Hydrogen Fueling Infrastructure Program—a collaborative effort between BC Ministry of Energy and Climate and CHA to expand hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in the province.

“We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from the CIB, as well as from both federal and provincial governments, and our partners,” Armstrong said.

“Most of all, we’re thankful for our customers—the early adopters whose continued commitment is helping drive this transition to a cleaner future,” he continued.

This marks the first collaboration with Cavendish Hydrogen as the equipment supplier.

“Our long-standing collaboration with HTEC is a testament to what can be achieved when industry leaders join forces,” stated Eddy Nupoort, Senior Director of Sales & Business Development for the Americas at Cavendish Hydrogen. “We are proud that our fueling technology is supporting the expansion of HTEC’s hydrogen station network across British Columbia.”

Nupoort says the hydrogen fuelling equipment supplied by Cavendish is factory cUL certified.

“We are proud to supply HTEC with premium, certified equipment that likely marks the first hydrogen fueling station in Canada to receive full cUL certification,” said Nupoort. “Together, we are not only advancing Canada’s hydrogen economy, but also laying the foundation for the broader adoption of zero-emission transportation solutions.”

“Collaborations like this are helping us build the foundation for a cleaner transportation future,” Armstrong agreed.

Canada recently invested $49 million in HTEC through the Strategic Innovation Fund.

To date, HTEC’s hydrogen station network has dispensed about 102,500 kilograms of hydrogen and supports up to 300 hydrogen electric vehicles in BC, helping pave the way for a cleaner, low-carbon transportation future.
