Novarc Advances Welding Automation with Machine Vision and AI Tech Stack

May 14, 2025 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

Novarc Technologies announced the launch of an AI-powered system that brings both vision and real-time adaptation to articulated robotic and mechanized welding.

The system, dubbed NovAI, takes guesswork out of welding as real-time AI adjustments ensure consistent high-quality welds.

The North Vancouver-based full-stack AI robotics company made the announcement at Automate 2025, North America’s premier robotics and automation event, taking place this year in Detroit.

“The introduction of NovAI is extremely exciting for us,” commented chief executive officer Soroush Karimzade. “Its development is based on two decades of research and practical industrial grade deployments of our award winning Spool Welding Robot.”

Novarc is a member of the BC Tech Association.

BC Tech is the largest member-led technology non-profit in British Columbia, and we’re dedicated to turning startups and scaleups into the anchor companies of tomorrow. Our work supports members to grow and diversify their talent pool, acquire new customers, access capital and accelerate their scaleup journey. Technology is a key industry for BC’s future and builds resiliency in every industry. Today, every company is a tech company. Join now.

The new solution “promises to transform welding automation by bringing the precision of human expertise through AI to articulated robots, co-bots and mechanized welders,” according to Karimzade, “which will help manufacturers to automate difficult welding jobs that could not be automated before and reduce manufacturing waste such as over-welding and post-weld grinding while improving the finished weld quality.”

The NovAI platform includes sub-products Capture, Control, Autonomy, and NovSync.

“Capture” upgrades robotic welding by bringing machine vision into the process, giving welders real-time visibility into the weld pool. “Control” combines human expertise with robotic welding to handle complex welds more more accurately. NovAI Autonomy lets robots see and adapt like expert welders, eliminating the need for pre-scanning and manual adjustments.

And all of these technologies are powered by the NovSync Dashboard, which collects and connects all weld video and parameter data in one secure platform.

Earlier this year, Novarc Technologies secured a $50 million round of capital.

The Series B round was led by Export Development Canada with participation from Graham Partners, InBC Investment Corp, and Seaspan, which has been an adopter of Novarc’s technology since 2017, when it invested $500,000 during Novarc’s Seed Round offering.
