On Tuesday, July 29th, the BC Chapter of Women in Tech Canada will host an empowering evening of insight and inspiration at KPMG Vancouver, inviting women and allies from across the tech spectrum to explore the art of self-advocacy and authentic leadership.

Titled Levelling the Playing Field: Advocating for Yourself with Grace & Grit, the event will feature a keynote from the Honourable Brenda Bailey, British Columbia’s Minister of Finance and a longtime champion of gender equity in tech.

The evening will unfold at the intersection of policy, innovation, and lived experience, offering attendees practical tools and meaningful dialogue to fuel their careers.

Open to everyone from students and career changers to senior leaders and executives, the event promises a blend of storytelling, mentorship, and community-building.

In her keynote, Minister Bailey will draw on her journey as a tech entrepreneur, nonprofit executive, and public servant to highlight how women can speak up and stand out—without sacrificing their authenticity.

Following the keynote, Minister Bailey will be joined on a panel by three trailblazers:

  • April Hicke, CEO of Toast
  • Jill Tipping, President and CEO of BC Tech
  • Jillian Frank, Partner at KPMG

Moderated by Women in Tech Canada’s BC lead Bibi, the panel will address real-world strategies for navigating leadership, overcoming systemic barriers, and cultivating resilience in a fast-moving industry.

With its mix of high-profile speakers, grassroots energy, and inclusive focus, Levelling the Playing Field is poised to be a standout event on Vancouver’s tech calendar—reminding the community that when women advocate for themselves, the whole sector moves forward.
