A Toronto-based online car retailer today announced the opening of a West Coast facility.
Clutch was founded by Steve Seibel in 2016 after frustrating experiences with traditional automotive dealerships.
Now, Clutch is solidifying its base in B.C. with a location at 5400 Minoru Boulevard in Richmond, the Canadian company has revealed.
The 30,000-square-foot location “marks a significant milestone in Clutch’s national expansion,” according to a statement from the Ontario-born upstart.
“Opening this new facility in Richmond represents a major step forward in our vision for Clutch and a clear sign of how far we’ve come,” stated Dan Park, chief executive officer of Clutch.
In fact, Clutch is no stranger to the space, having previously operated out of the same facility from 2021 through 2023.
Since then, Clutch has grown substantially, reaching $1 billion in vehicles purchased through the platform, and now sells more than 10,000 vehicles per year.
“Our goal has always been to make buying and selling vehicles simpler and more transparent for all Canadians,” Park said, “and this expansion brings us closer to delivering that promise from coast to coast.”
The Richmond facility will serve as Clutch’s operational headquarters for British Columbia, Park says, powering vehicle reconditioning and logistics capabilities throughout the province.
This includes being the site which each Clutch vehicle undergoes a 210-point inspection, from which “only the highest quality vehicles are selected for reconditioning, and those that meet Clutch’s strict national resale standards are awarded the Clutch Certified designation.”
Clutch expects to grow the facility rapidly, hiring a team of up to 1,000 employees over the next two years.
Through Clutch, British Columbians can now sell their car online, receive an instant offer, and choose either a home pickup option or drop off the vehicle at the new Richmond retail hub. Plans to enable the buying side of the marketplace in the province are underway.
