A development application for a Vancouver Apple flagship store on the site of the existing CF Pacific Centre glass rotunda has been approved.
According to Business in Vancouver, the City of Vancouver’s Development Permit Board passed a proposal to replace the glass rotunda at 701 West Georgia Street — the northeast corner of the intersection of West Georgia Street and Howe Street — with a 3 storey retail building.
Although it has not yet been confirmed by Apple Canada, it’s widely believed that the building will become a 14,000 square foot flagship Apple store.
Placed on a 45 degree angle at the busy downtown intersection, the new Apple Pacific Centre designed by Perkins+Will Architects could feature broad stone walls and a multilevel curved glass facade topped by a rounded, wood planked ceiling.
Similar to San Francisco’s Union Square flagship, a green wall may anchor the rear of the store. Trees and benches dotted around the plaza further strengthen the structure’s connection to nature.
