Vancouver-born Daily Hive has acquired Toronto-based news startup, Pressed.
As part of the acquisition, Jacqueline Leung, founder of Pressed, joins Daily Hive as Managing Editor.
For three years, Pressed reached thousands of Canadians with its popular daily email newsletter and social media community. Loyal readers knew Pressed for its witty tone of voice and concise explanation of complex world issues.
Leung announced three months ago that she was shuttering Pressed but this week’s news has it rising from the ashes.
“Through quality content, Pressed helped people join in on conversations, understand different perspectives, and make important decisions. I’m excited to continue pushing this mission forward in my new role at Daily Hive,” Leung shared on the announcement.
No doubt Leung’s experience with newsletters was a big part of Daily Hive’s decision-making process—she sent over one million emails in 3 years with Pressed.
Daily Hive recently introduced channel-specific newsletters that deliver customized content to readers directly from the writers and editors creating it. Leung’s experience will be integral in making those newsletters accessible and easily digestible.
