Vancouver meal kit delivery service Fresh Prep has raised a $7 million Series A round led by Renewal Funds. Fresh Prep raised $3.3 million from First West Capital in 2018 and has now raised over $10 million.
Genevieve Pinto, a partner at Renewal Funds, has joined Fresh Prep’s board of directors.
Fresh Prep was started in 2014 by Burnaby childhood friends Becky Brauer, Dhruv Sood and Husein Rahemtulla who were all in search of an easier answer to the question “what’s for dinner?”
For busy people they found there were too many obstacles to cooking a wholesome meal at home and that made it all too appealing to just grab fast food instead. They figured there had to be a better option and that’s why they started Fresh Prep.
Fresh Prep delivers tens of thousands of meals each week across the Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island and Okanagan regions, and recently produced their millionth meal out of their 35,000-square-food production facility.
The new funding will go towards hiring more talent as well as service enhancements for the rollout of Fresh Prep’s 100% reusable meal kit that will eliminate single-use plastics.
Once completed, Fresh Prep will be the only meal kit provider to offer such a product on mass scale in Canada, and this will be a significant step towards Fresh Prep’s goal of becoming a completely zero waste business by 2025.
