Shopify has tapped industry veteran Cathy Polinsky as the company’s new vice president of engineering as it plans to double the size of its engineering team this year.
As the newest senior leader on Shopify’s engineering team, Polinsky will lead Shopify’s efforts to build its e-commerce infrastructure and will lead the company’s efforts to double its engineering team in 2021 by hiring 2,021 new technical staff.
We’re investing an incredible amount in the technical foundations of commerce so we can remove barriers for entrepreneurs all over the world to start and grow their businesses. If this inspires you, we need you and your technical expertise – in front end, backend, data, mobile, infrastructure, and more – to continue building one of the world’s fastest growing platforms. Shopify is fully remote. We don’t care where you live; you can work from anywhere.
Almost one year ago Shopify announced that they were making a significant investment in Vancouver, with plans to hire 1,000 employees and open their first permanent office.
But then the COVID-19 crisis hit and Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke announced that Shopify would be a digital by default company. “We will keep our offices closed until 2021 so that we can rework them for this new reality. And after that, most will permanently work remotely. Office centricity is over.”
