Vancouver’s GameSeta Esports has been acquired by Los Angeles’ PlayVS (pronounced Play-versus), the leading amateur esports platform in the United States.
The GameSeta platform manages all the logistics that go into an esports league including a secured platform for schools and students to monitor game performance, conduct training sessions, and manage teams.
PlayVS is the single community where players come together to compete, fans gather to spectate and coaches manage their programs. Through strategic partnerships with the National Federation of State High School Associations, the PlayVS High School product allows students to compete for a state championship. PlayVS has raised more than $107 million since its founding in January 2018.
Last year GameSeta took home the Top Idea prize at Coast Capital Savings Venture competition and struck a partnership with BC School Sports (BCSS), the governing body for school sport and activities in BC, to begin the rollout of esports in high schools throughout the province.
Post acquisition, GameSeta will provide local guidance as PlayVS continues expansion into the Canadian market and co-founders Tawanda Masawi and Rana Taj will join PlayVS to lead Canadian operations.
“We are delighted to welcome GameSeta to the PlayVS family, as our missions and strategies align perfectly,” said Delane Parnell, founder and CEO of PlayVS.
“This acquisition will allow PlayVS to help further its mission of providing the best competitive community for gaming, especially as it relates to expanding our international footprint thanks to the foundation set by GameSeta. We’re excited to accelerate distribution and adoption of the PlayVS’ infrastructure so that young people can play esports in a structured and safe environment, all while being recognized for their teamwork and achievements.”

According to today’s announcement, the acquisition of GameSeta by PlayVS is significant for students in Canada, as it will provide more access to infrastructure, opportunities for competition and game titles through the PlayVS platform.
Coaches will gain access to the PlayVS network of resources as well, including its team of representatives, agents and its coach academy. PlayVS guides coaches and school administrations through how to best build out its programs and help them learn more about esports and coaching, as many are new to the competitive gaming scene.
“Three years ago Mr. Parnell and his team spearheaded the amateur esports revolution in the US, and we’re proud to now be a part of that journey here in Canada,’ added Tawanda Masawi, GameSeta CEO and Cofounder.
“As the world has transitioned to a digital-first landscape, gaming has become a lifeline engaging Canadian students with their schools and peers in a constructive way. Personally, I believe this is the biggest opportunity for Canadian schools to deliver a world-class esports experience for students. We cannot wait to hit the ground running and get to work.”
