Vancouver’s Routific makes software for local delivery businesses and is powering over 4 million deliveries per month. Routific’s route optimization and delivery management platform is built especially for local delivery businesses.
There’s been a growing movement to buy from local businesses rather than Amazon and Walmart, and this movement has been heightened during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the last year, many small businesses have been forced to pivot their business from retail to home delivery, or risk shutting down. In the case of restaurants this has meant letting delivery platforms like Doordash and UberEats take a 15-30% cut.
Unfortunately its not always easy to find a local retailer that is as convenient and fast as Amazon’s Prime service.
To give back to their hometown economy Routific has launched Shop Local, an online hub for Vancouverites to discover bakeries, florists, breweries, and other companies that deliver in their area.
All the local businesses featured on the platform have been verified by Routific, and all of the businesses do their own deliveries – this means they’re not relying on major couriers like Fedex, UPS, or Canada Post to get their goods to you.
Shopify has positioned themselves as anti-amazon in support of the local economy, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a Shopify co-founder invested in Routific given the alignment of their missions.
“Routific’s growth is a reflection of the impact they’re having on small businesses all around the world,” said Scott Lake, Hello Ventures CEO, Shopify Co-Founder and Routific investor. “This is a great example of how technology can empower small businesses and give them a chance to thrive in the competitive world of e-commerce.”
Routific is launching Shop Local on their home turf in Vancouver with plans to roll the platform out in other cities soon and integrate it into its existing route-optimization platform.
