A research interest in bamboo and a love for sushi inspired a University of British Columbia student to launch a line of home décor products made from recycled chopsticks.
Fast forward four years and you’ll find ChopValue’s products at retailers like Nordstrom and Simons.
ChopValue is the brainchild of Felix Böck, a former UBC doctoral student in the faculty of forestry who studied bamboo as a building material.
Business Insider recently profiled Vancouver’s ChopValue and it is worth a watch. It’s a social impact venture who is having global impact.
Be on the look out for ChopValue’s recognizable wood grain in other consumer products as they expand into other markets.
As an example, Vancouver’s EFFYDESK is collaborating with ChopValue to offer a recycled desktop (pictured) for their high tech standing desks . You’ll also see it featured in the Business Insider video.
