2021 Ocean Startup Challenge To Award $1.4 Million

April 6, 2021 by Techcouver Newsdesk Leave a Comment

British Columbia is home to a vibrant and growing ocean technology industry. During a year where many industries faced uncertainty, the importance of innovating in many ocean technology sectors only became clearer.

The Ocean Startup Project wants to support more innovators across Canada who are interested in exploring opportunities in the ocean economy, which is predicted to double in value by 2030.

They have launched their second annual Ocean Startup Challenge to support innovators and entrepreneurs who are developing ideas or technologies that could address ocean industry challenges.

For the 2021 Challenge, they will award up to $1.4 million to ocean tech startups, and offer learning opportunities, access to industry mentors, and business support from Challenge sponsors.

Last year’s Ocean Startup Challenge saw 158 applications from across the globe and Vancouver’s SeaHawk Robotics was among the 14 winning companies, receiving $25,000 in prize money.

Applications for the 2021 Ocean Startup Challenge are now open.
