After chopping fruits and vegetables, what do you do with the waste? For many, the process is a complete mess with various plastic bins and misplaced foods.
Enter Lomi, the world’s first kitchen appliance that will turn food scraps, boxes, cloth and bioplastics into dirt within 24 hours.
Lomi is manufactured by Kelowna’s Pela, best known for its sustainable mobile phone case.
To date, Pela has prevented the equivalent of 48 million plastic bags from being created. The company’s long term goal is to keep one billion pounds of plastic from ever being made.
“The arrival of Lomi is the beginning of a new era for Pela, further positioning the brand as a leader within the waste management space,” says Matt Bertulli, CEO and Co-Founder of Pela.

The effort begins with Lomi launching a preorder campaign on Indiegogo, along with a list of “Lomi Approved” products.
Only one day into the campaign, Lomi has raised over $3 million, blowing through its goal of $62,531 with 29 days to go.
